Z.I.E.F PRODUCTION / SPRINT BLOG 2

 Z.I.E.F Development Progress (Sprint 2)

A second sprint down for the production of Z.I.E.F (Zombie Infestation Elimination Force). For this sprint, I was tasked with creating another set of props along with a supermarket refrigerated display. The props that I was to mainly focus on for this sprint were a fire hydrant, collection storage bin, wall-mounted exit sign, and a metal trash can.

The designs for these props were ordinary items with a bit of dirt and damage. The fire hydrant was a simple build with 4 hose connectors around the sides.

For the collection bin, I was told that this prop will be opened, and a hatch is needed for the player to open the bin and store items inside. I made the hatch a separate piece along with creating the base bin model. I moved the pivot of the hatch to the side where it will rotate. I gave it a bunch of worn-out metal paint with blood hands on it to show that it has been used before and some have died while using it.

The wall-mounted exit sign was the prop that has an issue that I had to deal with. the creation of the mesh was simple to make, however, it was texturing that I had a problem. The needed text that I would use in substance painter was not as customizable for this sign. There was an EXIT alpha that was in substance painter, but it was too wide to fit on the sign and it looked out to be spaced out between letters. I decided to make a custom font alpha in Designer that would be used in Painter with more custom options like squashing and stretching and also have different styles for the font like bold or italic. once that was cleared it was simple to finish a bit of grime and emissive and it's done.

Finally, the trash can was the last prop in this set that I had to work on. For this, I wanted to have a high poly that can give a bit of depth without increasing the poly count. First, I create the low poly with a bit of deformation to the mesh, then duplicated it with subdivisions and make the engravings for the trash can while keeping the deformed structure. Now in Substance Painter is just making the bake and it is done.

Everything is going swimmingly, and the refrigerated piece will be done later this week or into the next sprint.
